Communicative level sensors: crm+ sensors now available with IO-Link

The new crm+ level sensors are equipped with IO-Link interface version 1.1. The IO-Link interface transfers measured distance values as well as identification, status and diagnosis values. It can easily be set with IO-Link maximum distances or switching points. The robust sensors cover a measuring range from 30 mm to 8 m with its five detections ranges. The additional digital display shows the measured value in mm/cm directly at the sensor. The Push-Pull switching output is used in standard-IO mode or switching output (pnp or npn).

The crm+ sensors in M30 stainless steel housing detect continuously levels of liquids and all kinds of bulk materials that reflect sound. This enables non-contact level control regardless of color or transparency. Ultrasonic sensors do not have any problems with dust and fog in the measuring distance. The protective film of the crm+ sensors makes it easy to remove soiling, i.e. splashing during filling process. Additionally, level control on aggressive media is also possible.

Label sensor esf-1: detected with certainty. It's all not a question of the label

Highlights

  • Ultrasonic label and splice sensor
  • Response time < 300 µs: for use at high web speeds
  • Housing in fork format with very compact dimensions
  • 3 Teach-in methods for the detection of labels even outside the standard
  • IO-Link version 1.1 with Smart Sensor Profile
  • Push-Pull switching output plus PNP switching output for label/ splice detection and web break monitoring

The new esf-1 label sensor from microsonic is equipped with a PNP switching output and a Push-Pull switching output with IO-Link version 1.1. The compact fork housing can be fitted close to the dispenser edge. The sensor reliably detects the label edge at high web speeds and with the improved evaluation algorithm, it can even detect difficult labels. To the ultrasonic sensor, it does not matter whether the labels are metallized, or made of foil or paper. Even changing colours and degrees of transparency have no effect on the certain detection in the labelling process. In addition, the sensor can also be used to detect adhesive joints and splices.

Along with the launching of version 1.1 of IO-Link, the esf-1 label sensor also got an improved evaluation algorithm. In the teach-in phase of the labels, the algorithm more precisely analyses the transitions between the base material and the label. Some labels can cause so-called overshoots in the area of these transitions. The overshoots depend on the material and thickness of the labels. The overshoots are thus better detected and suppressed for the automatic determination of the switching threshold. Labels that were difficult to detect with ultrasound in the past can now be learnt easily with the esf-1 and positioned with certainty.

IO-Link is not fast enough for the exact positioning of the labels. This continues to be done in SIO mode. Through the IO-Link interface, the label sensor settings can be made directly at the controller without having to operate the sensor on-site. The sensor has the smart auxiliary function recipe management integrated in it via IO-Link. To that end, the different labels are first learnt and the material parameters are saved in the controller. If the label is changed, the operator selects the label type at the controller. The controller rewrites the label-specific parameters to the sensor. This shortens the expensive setup time.

Easy to clean: pms ultrasonic sensor

“A safe and easy-to-clean factory is the highest requirement in the production of medicines and food,” thus Johannes Schulte, Managing Director of microsonic. The technical components installed in production and packaging machines must withstand difficult ambient conditions and intensive cleaning processes.

Compact ultrasonic sensor with a sophisticated geometry in a number of versions. The unusual housing geometry of the sensor satisfies important demands placed on the hygienic design: whether top to bottom fill level measurement, or horizontal object measurement, a housing surface never has a horizontal alignment, despite installation position. This means that the cleaning fluids are able to run off completely, regardless of the installation situation.

With its stainless steel housing, the pms has been designed without crevices or dirt edges and is highly-suited to intensive cleaning and disinfection. Bacteria are unable to find any breeding ground on the smooth surface; cleaning agents flow away completely, irrespective of the installation position. The PTFE-encapsulated ultrasonic transducer protects the sensor membrane from aggressive chemical cleaning agents. Cables can be installed outside the process, to ensure a hygienic solution.

With four different detection ranges, the new pms ultrasonic sensor covers a broad measuring range of 20 mm to 1.3 m. The sensors are fitted with a Push-Pull switching output and IO-Link in the version 1.1 or with an 0-10 V or 4-20 mA analogue output. This covers a very broad spectrum of different applications.

The standard version of pms sensor with a D12 adapter shaft can be fitted in a mounting clip or a flange screw connection. The D12 bayonet catch enables sensors to the installed quickly and affordably in an established fastening system and can be replaced just as quickly without the need for tools. microsonic turned 25 & moved into new headquarters

microsonic celebrated its 25th anniversary in its new company building at PHOENIX Lake in Dortmund

„In the founding year of our company we sold a whopping nine sensors“, Johannes Schulte, founder of microsonic GmbH remembers. 25 Years have passed and today microsonic is in the top three of the world's ultrasonic sensor producers. microsonic doubled its production capacities at the new company location at PHOENIX Lake. The building was designed by Architekturbüros F&G Geddert und plus 4930 Düsseldorf • Berlin and erected by Freundlieb Bauunternehmung GmbH & Co. KG in Dortmund. On a 4,300m² piece of land a three-floored building was constructed that includes manufacturing and storage areas, R&D labs and an entire floor for management, sales and admin.

On September 15, 2015, the Dortmund specialist für ultrasound sensors officially inaugurated their new headquarters. Clients and partners from Germany and other countries as well as guests from industry, science and politics had the opportunity to explore the new company building in what was once the steel production site Phoenix East. "microsonic brings a highly innovative company to its new headquarters in the historical steel production site Phoenix. Looking at the rise of this two-man-company into a leading specialist for ultrasonic sensors and viewing their new location at Phoenix, one term springs to mind: vivid structural change," said Garrelt Duin, Economy Minister of North Rhine/ Westphalia, about this double event. After specialist presentations, a sensor exhibition and a show presentation of sensor manufacture, a festive summer party on the roof terrace rounded off the 25th anniversary and headquarters inauguration.

Phoenix East was once a production site for high-quality steel. Today microsonic utilizes this location and its infrastructure, among other things, to provide an attractive working environment - the spacious cafeteria, for example, offers a clear view of Phoenix Lake. Architecturally, the modern, newly-constructed building is bright and open, with much glass and steel in its design. The central light tower connects the individual departments of the three building levels, ensuring close interconnection of daily business processes. The green roof terrace facing south creates an open communication space for large and small meetings and a recreational area for employees during their breaks.

A small step for us. A great measurement range for you.

Two years ago, we presented the bks+6 with a measurement range of 35 mm. Sometimes, 35 mm is just not enough. We had a think and developed the cascadable transformer module. Their flexible and ingenious electronics enables them to be switched in series.

Fully customizable

At this year Hannover Fair, we present a sample of bks+8/37/FIU with a wide measurement range of formidable 320 mm. Due to this flexible concept other measurement ranges are conceivable. The IO-Link interface can be parametrized to detect a web edge, web width or the centre position of the web. It will be even possible to scan two webs simultaneously.
